Yoga is a several thousand-year-old practice of breathing techniques (pranayama) and physical postures (asana) that are meant to cleanse and tone the body, allowing the mind to become calm, to think and act clearly, and bring about a greater personal well-being. Obviously, the whole tradition of yoga is not so simple as I’ve described here, and it contains many other aspects, but this is the essence of the practice. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, the fundamental text of yoga, sutra (or verse) 1.2 states that yoga is the ability to direct and sustain the mind in a single direction, or on a single object. The practice of asanas and pranayama is a proven method of improving this capacity.

The beauty of yoga lies in the fact that it is a personal journey. Each person will find certain aspects easier or harder and will progress in their own way and in their own time. There is no competition with the person next to you.

One of my favorite quotes, by Arthur Ashe, sums this up eloquently and is essentially the way that I look at yoga: “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

For: adult women, especially postpartum.

Duration:  60 minute

Description: A combination of ballet, yoga, toning, dance that I designed to help myself recovery from my delivery. It’s fun, different, and is meant to help ourselves get in better shape in a way that celebrates our bodies.

I recommend that you use comfy sportswear and shoes. Part of the class will be done barefoot on a mat.

Hatha yoga

 

For: Adults of all ages, with or without experience.

Duration:  75 minutes

Description: Hatha yoga is a physical yoga practice, for all physical fitness levels. Every posture can be adapted to individual needs. All classes include pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, asanas (postures), and relaxation. Themes and sequences change weekly.

Dress code: Wear comfortable sport-style clothes, bring layers for the final relaxation, and we will be barefoot. Poise provides mats, but please bring your own if you have allergies or are averse to sharing. Please bring a towel if you sweat.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga in English

Vinyasa Flow is a style of yoga that smoothly flows through a sequence of postures, connecting movement with breath. It is a dynamic practice that helps to increase flexibility, strength and mindfulness. Kate’s classes are taught in English, her native language, and are suitable for varying levels of English and yoga experience, as she demonstrates poses and suggests variations. Kate has been practicing yoga since 2006 and started teaching Vinyasa in 2013 after completing 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training with Frog Lotus Yoga.

It is recommended for injury prevention and recovery in postpartum women and for anyone interested in improving their figure, strengthen abdominals, improve posture, and optimize energy. PreNatal and PostNatal Yoga

Gabriella de Rinaldis presents yoga specifically for the pre and postnatal woman. While prenatal yoga focuses on simple and safe postures, relaxation, breathing, and preparation for giving birth. You may join the class during your second and third trimesters. The Postnatal class focuses on recovering your pelvic floor, rebalancing your emotions, learning how to effectively retrain and use your abdominals in order to pick up your baby properly, and toning all the areas of your body progressively.  Please make sure your doctor has approved that you return to exercise, usually a minimum of three months after the birth of your baby.

EquilibraT

This class mixes Global Active Stretching, Pilates, and Hipopressive Abdominals in order to prevent and correct injuries and back problems, increase your overall strength and energy, and work your core in an effective and healthy way. It is taught by José Manuel Rodriguez Costas, a licensed physical therapist registered in Navarre, number 374.
